Their whiskey French onion soup is fantastic! Service was outstanding. Very good wine selection. My wife had steak which she really enjoyed and I had pork tenderloin as our main dish whic was excellent. It is pricy but worth every penny. This is our special occasion restaurant.

This is a quaint little restaurant right in the middle of downtown Mount Dora. It was recommended by one of the local store owners and I can't thank him enough! Loved the charming secret garden type of entrance to the restaurant. The ambiance is amazing, food is delicious, and the staff couldn't be friendlier! FYI the restaurant (meaning the first and part of the second floor) does not open until 5:00pm. You can however sit in the bar or the area around it, for some appetizers and sandwiches prior to 5pm, I actually liked that area better than the rest, it has a super cozy feel to it! I do however want to go back to try the rest of the menu items that are only available after 5... As for me and the rest of our party, we can all say it is the best restaurant in Mount Dora!

A wonderful find in downtown mount Dora. We thought we would beat the crowd on a Saturday night by walking in at 6pm only to find it booked. Was able to sit at the bar and eat which was more enjoyable and friendly. We had the fried tomatoes and escargot for apps which were amazing. Entrees were fish specials and Parmesan chicken. All were eaten to the last morsel. Will definitely go again on our next trip but make reservations before we get there.

Dreamed of stopping in on Mount Dora once I moved back to Florida & finally got a chance for a quick visit tonight with my husband! Let me first say, the town itself does NOT disappoint!!! So beautiful, so quaint, so friendly. We decided to have dinner here because of the massive amounts of reviews + the name intrigued my husband :) The meal & ambiance was outstanding!!! My husband is a chef & is quite picky on rating restaurants & out of the blue, from across the table, announced this was in his TOP 5 MEALS EVER. I wasn't too shocked as I agreed, amazing flavors + pleasant presentation. We ordered the tempura artichoke hearts & the Atlantic salmon, to split. It was enough to split, but yet our foodie hearts craved more; already planning our next visit back & who we need to bring with first!! One thing I would point out is the price. The price of $42 + tip was well worth it, but the yelp page put $$. I would have to disagree and say prices are more in the $$$ range. Our waiters name was Mike and he was a pleasure. Thank you Goblin for a wonderful impromptu night out for my husband and I- we will definitely be back again!

Great atmosphere and very good food. The service is top notch! Seating capacity is 126 it has a full bar upstairs and extra seating for dining and downstairs this restaurant has outside patio dining area as well.

Amazing place! Very dainty, I had a great time and service was amazing. It was also very clean and on etiquette! Do Recommend. I had a lamb burger, the fries are great too!

We ate at the market goblin for the first time yesterday. We had visited too late a few Sunday's before so we made sure to get there by 2pm (they close early on Sunday's). We knew it had to be good as there was no waiting room left in the tiny lobby. Once seated we admired the lovely decor and ambience. I ordered white sangria..delish. Each of us ordered burgers. I had the Irish cheddar burger..wow!! With each bite I was literally in heaven. I would however order the burger medium next time because medium well was drier along the edges of the burger. The middle of the burger was to die for. We all left planning our next visit to mount Dora just to eat here.

On a recent weekend exploration, we stumbled upon the Goblin Market. (And of course, that was thanks to Yelp!) The atmosphere is adorable- we had a table upstairs and the walls were lined with bookshelves and different classic books. I could have spent hours in there just checking out the selection. Our server was fantastic which is always a big plus for me. For an appetizer I chose the tempura artichokes. (duh- I'm obsessed with artichokes and um, please deep fry anything and everything) Anyway, they were filled with an herb cream cheese and served alongside a tangy mustard and were absolutely delightful. I asked the server's recommendation for my entree and I went with the cashew crusted chicken sandwich. It was served on a brioche bun (seriously, you could put anything on brioche and I will eat it) and covered with brie and raspberry preserves. It was excellent, but the cashew coating slid right off and it made me sad, so that was my only gripe. My lunch date got the Irish Cheddar burger and let me tell you what- the onion jam that was on top of the burger was so damn good I would have eaten it by the spoonful. One problem- they overcooked the burger! So sad. If it was cooked correctly, it would have been one of my favorites. That is something that can be fixed though, don't worry Goblin, I have faith in you! Let get down to brass tacks here- THE FRIES. THE GOD DAMN FRIES. Holy moly they were mind blowing! Our server mentioned they were beer battered and now I want to beer batter every potato I encounter. This is no joke-- I will drive all the way to Mt. Dora just for the fries. Gimme.

Went to celebrate a birthday, the food was fantastic and the service was great our waiter Michael was professional and he put up with six adults all talking at the same time.He suggested a cheese cake cheese platter, it was wonderful and perfect for sharing. I would have given 5 stars but the drink service was slow and the parking was horrible, the bar service they can work on but soneone from the restaurant needs to speak to the city officials and tell them to get some parking ! It was raining and had we not had a reservation we would have kept driving and not even stopped in Mount Dora, the streets were blocked off and we parked blocks away, not fun in the rain and heels.

Much better the second time around. Food was exceptional again and this time at dinner the service matched the food.

Came for lunch were seated right away upstairs. Great ambience with the library feel and separate rooms. No draft beers but lots of bottled beers to chose from. Took waiters recommendation on beer and it was very good. Had to wait a while to get order taken. Got the crab bisque and the special of the day a pork jerk quesadilla. Soup was very good but not great. Not hot just like warm. The flavor of the quesadilla was excellent but the actual tortilla wrapper was completely soggy so much that it ruined the quesadilla for me. So while I would come back again I would lot recommend the quesadilla.

It's as if someone asked me exactly what I wanted in a restaurant. - Well most importantly, it has to have good food with a unique twist. I like to try different spins on an old classic. CHECK. - I like fun and interesting decor. Not cluttered, but a cozy feel with lots to look at. Eclectic furniture is a plus. Bookshelf wallpaper would be awesome. CHECK. - A whimsical name that appeals to my love of the fantasy written word and media. Preferably something to do with forests, elves, faeries, or goblins. CHECK. - An exterior that compliments the restaurants name and interior. A cottage feel with a hint of old English inspiration. CHECK. - A quaint, adorable patio that separates you from the busy shoppers and tourists in the surrounding area. Somewhere that makes you forget where you are so you can just concentrate on your delicious lunch and, hopefully, riveting conversation. CHECK. This hidden gem has everything I could ever ask for and more. My mother was hell bent on taking me here because she knew how much I'd love it. She knows me so well. The service and food was spot on. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Fontina. It was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the aioli really made the sandwich. My mom had the Potato Crusted Flounder Caesar Salad. This woman loves her seafood dishes. She may be bias considering she orders this almost every time she comes here. Hey, that has to mean it''s good, right? My only complaint is that this glorious restaurant of my dreams only exists in Florida, and I am a resident of Cleveland. Believe me...every time I visit my parents from now on, we will be coming here to eat, drink, and be merry.

This is the best date night place in the area but I was not impressed. The restaurant is dark and overdone. The prices were very expensive for the quality of food. The one thing that I saw people actually enjoying were their burgers. Too bad I didn't order one. I had grilled octopus on field greens. It was super salty and tough. Usually when marinated right, grilled octopus can be delicious. The greens were dry and plain, not a drop of dressing, nothing special at all. The French onion soup was average at best. The meatballs were rather a joke. Two sitting in a metal tray all by themselves. The appetizers were $15. each. The service was the best part of the evening. Our waitress was patient and friendly. I'm hoping that Mt. Dora will have some better food in the future.

Once again Yelp lead us to the right place. Looking for somewhere fresh and different? The Goblin Market fits the bill. I had the lunch special turkey salad on a croissant and my husband had the Irish Cheddar burger and oh I can't forget the crab bisque with an accompaniment of sherry to top it with. A delicious meal in a relaxing atmosphere.

I had a friend in town with her family and I wanted to do something non-Disney for the day. I suggested Mount Dora and The Goblin Market restaurant. I have never dined at the Goblin and have been looking forward to for some time. It proved to be a very good choice. The restaurant is charming and named after a famous poem, that happens to be by one of my friend's favorite poets. The only downside is that we were in between lunch and dinner and they would only let us sit in the bar area. Still lots of character but awkward since we were eating on basically a coffee table. Next time I will come during their regular dining hours. The lamb burger was magnificent and I highly recommend it.

I was driving through on my home and decided to grab a today from a different restaurant. I stumbled upon this one and it had great reviews. This restaurant was slightly out of my way but menu you looked good. I ordered the fried green tomatoes which were delish, and the chicken scaloppine was amazing! I had drank a Moscow mule while I was waiting for my togo very refreshing. The atmosphere and decor was so cute and different. I will be back. Highly recommend.

I have been here several times and have NEVER been disappointed. The decor is very eclectic, and it's like you are in a posh house. The service is excellent, but the food- that's why you come here! The food is delicious! Also, the drinks are amazing, and they have some nice choices of wine. The upstairs bar is just a great place to hang, grab a window seat and watch the world go by. If it's a nice day, try to get a table outside and enjoy the outside ambiance. All in all, Goblin Market is probably the best restaurant in Mt. Dora...

  • Monty W.

I've dined here on several occasions and always enjoy it. Love the ambience, even though it's a bit dark. The salmon & strawberry salad is fantastic. The crabcake I had today was good but not great. It is presented on the menu with salads, but comes alone...which I thought was pretty strange. I mean, nothing with it. It should be listed as an appetizer. The place was packed and we had to wait unless we sat outside. Service was a little slow but the waiter was pleasant. Good place for lunch, varied menu, wine by the glass a bit pricey.

Wow!!! what a delightful restaurant. It is really a cool place........kind of like being in a library in a really classic old home. Our server was Tony and he was outstanding from star to finish. He told us the history of the restaurant and it has been open and under the SAME owners for near twenty years........an amazing accomplishment in a very volatile business. We had lunch, 5 of us, we had lamb burger, beef burgers, crab bisque, crab cake, .......the beer battered fries with the burgers are fabulous. Everything including very well crafted cocktails was just really great.....topped off with perfect service and very pleasant decor and surroundings. This is one that will not disappoint......great job!!! PS: don't miss the desserts....... peanut butter/chocolate bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake was over the top delicious!!!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Ask to sit upstairs unless you like sitting outside. They also have quaint outside seating. Chicken salad was amazing, cashew chicken superb and the burger and fries were scrumptious. Lobster bisque is also very good. We ended our meal with a very delicious bread pudding. This is my third time eating there and I have never been disappointed.

I heard a lot of good things about this place, do we decided to check it out and all in all it was an ok experience the best part of the meal was the peanut butter bread pudding. The burger was just ok nothing memorable about it, the bisque was good but not something I would get again. The place is cute, might give it another try for dinner. Lunch was just blah.

Excellent service. Irish onion soup is worth trying, the NY Strip was good quality and flavor but slightly overcooked (more medium than medium rare). The little lounge upstairs was quaint and the bartender friendly. Wife liked the Ruby Red martini but my Old Fashioned was below average. A nice upscale local place.

We ALWAYS eat here when we are in Mt. Dora. The food is always excellent, staff is smart, friendly, efficient, and the drinks are perfect! Never been disappointed-LOVE it here! Gourmet entrees/ fine dining and Sunday brunch options make this a favorite with locals and tourists, too. During the crazy crowded Art Festival they offer a great fixed menu with a full bar and service is fast so they can accommodate lots of guests. Well worth the wait!

Stopped in for lunch on a fairly busy Memorial Day weekend. Service was timely, dishes were delicious, and prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and ambiance. I enjoyed the lamb burger, my husband preferred his Irish Cheese Burger, and my friends demolished their Goblin club sandwich and chicken avocado salad.

The food here is quite good. The setting is cozy, and the outside charming. BUT the service is way average, and the attitude the staff has is enormously off putting. Including management. It's not an isolated incident, we go to Mount Dora annually, and I tell you we find ourselves at Merriill's Market down the street more and more. No one wants to spend money to go out to eat and have the staff act like they're the cats meow, doing you a favor and you should be so lucky to get in. Long lost at Goblin is the understanding of treating customers as appreciated guests.

This restaurant has been my wife and I's favorite for the last nine years. Whenever we go to Mount Dora it is an automatic lunch or dinner reservation. The service there is always absolutely awesome, the atmosphere eclectic and comfortable and, of course, the cuisine is incredibly awesome. The waitstaff is really flexible also with the gluten-free allergies and they are happily accommodating to our needs. Would recommend this to family and friends as an A+ restaurant.

Good, but pretty pricey. 2 for dinner is easily over $100, but it is the only fine dining in the area.

Not sure where my initial review disappeared to but here I go again. We made reservations a few days in advance just to make sure they had seating for our party of six. When we arrived we had a nice cozy table against the wall. Be warned, every thing about GMR is "cozy". There isn't a lot of space available. The decor is antique but with a modern edge. You'll find paintings surrounding the walls, books, maps, etc. decorating the restaurant. The guy bathroom has a giant metal sculpture and the girl bathroom has a sit down couch. The appetizers were awesome. We had crab cakes, fried green tomatoes and escargot, which all were excellent! We tried some micro brews which for the life of me I can't remember, but it was a blonde ale which was perfect for the meal. The salads, wow, the salads rocked. I had a Caesar, then others had the house salad along with a mix green salad. All were excellent! For the main course three of us had Elk shank. YUM! The meat was not gamey at all! It was so tender that I didn't need a knife. The seasoning was perfect. The asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes also rocked! I love asparagus which just melts in your mouth with a slight crunch. Also the mashed potatoes weren't over whelming and were light and creamy. Other dishes were a stuffed chicken and a blackened salmon, all served with mixed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. For desert we had a tart, cheese cake and ice cream. I'm full. I couldn't take another bite! Just one sir? What about an after dinner mint? Oh OK! (boom!)

Stopped in Mt. Dora for an early dinner & cocktails on the way back from Disney. Came here as it's rated #2 on Trip Advisor & wasn't disappointed. I had the soup of the day & crab cakes, & my honey had the pork chop special. We both enjoyed our meal & our cocktails - margaritas. Our server, Michael, was indeed attentive. Atmosphere is nice too.

In Mount Dora, this seems to be the place to go. It must be the "fanciest" restaurant in the whole quaint little town. They were very accommodating to my family, which includes a 6 month old baby and a stroller. A lot of other places in the area seem to have a "no stroller" rule and when you are a visiting tourist that doesn't always work to our favor. We started with the escargot and it was delicious. It was presented in a way I've never seen before and the sauce was unbelievable. For dinner I had the steak with mixed vegetables. I could have done without the veggies because they lacked flavor but the steak was very good. My sister had the fish and she devoured the whole plate. My mom chose the crab bisque and it was a little too heavy for her but the flavors were unique and delicious. It was unfortunate that they do not serve espresso to end our meal but we just walked next door and enjoyed delicious cafe lattes afterwards. The restaurant is so cute and you enter through a secret garden. If you are looking for a special meal while visiting Mount Dora, this is definitely it!

My favorite place to eat period! I will say one bad thing. I don't like breaded/seasoned fries at all. That's what they serve for lunch with their sandwiches, and I can't stand them. I always as if they have something else, or order a side of mayo to help me eat them. They just aren't good at all. Now, everything else on the menu is perfect. I mean perfect! I even ordered something with tomato, and the hostess Diane came by my table and told me the chef didn't like the look of them, and if I wanted them I could get them, but he would recommend against it. I could give specifics on everything, but why waste time. I eat the pork belly sandwich often. Very often. There has never been a bad thing on my plate from this restaurant, ever... except those stupid fries! You've been using them for years. Upgrade and change, PLEASE!!

Sigh. So the apps were good. Salad good. Bread good. We started the meal with an 80 dollar bottle of wine. No chiller was provided until 20 minutes later. My steak was ordered rare and came out medium. They offered to send it back but due to a medical procedure I was already full. They offered dessert on the house but yet again I was already full. When the check came no discount was offered. We would have been happy with 10% off the check. Will we come back? Maybe. But I would rather spread out what we paid at other restaurants than over priced medium steak.

I really should have reviewed much sooner because I've now forgotten some details on the delicious foods we ate here. We were part of a group of 8. Our server was great! Attentive, witty, prompt, and professional. We were seated upstairs, which was quite dim but I suppose that's the atmosphere they are going for. It was loud in the area in which we were seated as we were very close to the 3 or so other tables in the small room. It's not ideal for larger groups trying to carry on conversation. My salmon was moist and well flavored. My fiancé's steak was juicy and cooked as he asked. The bread before dinner was also quite a treat! The chocolate dessert I ordered was extremely rich, so much do that it's really more like fudge. Better served for a small group of people. One thing I very much loved was their secret garden like entrance! That was memorable and quite endearing. We'd definitely go back to try some of their other offerings.

We have been to Goblin Market several times over the past 2 yrs. Last night with out of town guests who had heard of the restaurant were excited about checking it out. Two us ordered their Flounder dish. The Flounder was dry. It was fresh enough, but it was dry. I asked for some butter in the hopes it would help, but no. The other dishes ordered were apparently very good....a petite filet and a chicken dish. Goblin can do and should do much better than serving a $34 dish of dry Flounder. The service was excellent, though I had to bring the fish to our server's attention as I was not asked how our food was.

Simply the Best restaurant In Mount Dora. Money well spent, that says it all! This was our second visit to the Goblin Market. I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the swordfish, each dish was cooked perfectly. We shared the flourless chocolate cake, it was rich and delicious. The waiter put up a fresh pot of decaf without any problem. The service was excellent and casual, just the way we like it. We all had a good laugh at one point, tells you how happy everyone was, even the waiter!...till next time, we live in the Gainesville area.

This is a beautiful quaint spot to bring your significant other or to have a intimate dining experience with a small group of friends. I had gone here for lunch and everything was just perfect. Before you even enter the restaurant, you have to go up a ramp, and the ramp is already beautiful with some plants around the top, and candle lanterns lining the top of the fence every 2 or 3 feet. I'm sure it would've looked beautiful lite up at night. As soon as you walk in, the hostess is ready to greet you. What I really enjoyed is that the wallpaper are books so you feel like you're in an old library. I love old libraries!!! I didn't get to see inside, but it still looked very nice and intimate in there. The outdoor seating is great and beautiful! Definitely do the outdoor seating if the weather permits. I went for Fourth of July weekend, and I did not break a sweat at all in the Florida heat. The patio is covered enough where you have shade and can see the clouds. There's also a big tree in the back to give you some coverage as well. The whole time I was dining, I felt like I was in a secret garden. It was just beautiful. The food was absolutely fabulous! The soup I had was the crab bisque. I devoured that quickly because it was that good. And the portion I had received it in was a very good lunch size to share with my husband. My main dish for lunch (yes, I like to eat a lot) was a Grilled Portabello Wrap. Boy oh boy was it good! The flavor just hit all the right places for me. It was a large size, so unfortunately I didn't finish it all. The service here was wonderful. Everyone that passed by was smiling, and the servers would kindly check up on us every now and then. If you ever find yourself in the Mt. Dora area, this is the spot to definitely check out.

One of the best spots in Mt. Dora. Lovely quaint atmosphere, quality food, varied menu, and quality service. Some say it's a little overpriced, but when you're in Mt. Dora, it's worth a little splurge for the difference in quality you get here vs. some of the other restaurants. Always a pleasant experience.

Some of the best food preparation in metro Orlando. Lacking pretentiousness in any aspect, this is a place I would eat weekly if I lived in Mount Dora. Just be sure to have plenty of time, because the courses are not served crisply but rather lethargically -- not indifferently, far from it. Just at a pace that doubles the time needed to dine in a relaxed manner. The service was actually very expert, good knowledge of food prep and ingredients and just the perfect degree of familiarity. If I were rating only food quality and preparation this review would be 5 stars. Highlights were the crab cake starter, which rivaled The Breakers in Palm Beach, the exceptional onion soup (joyously bereft of cheese globbed like glue sealing the bowl), pork loin so tender neither knife nor teeth were really necessary, and a bread pudding my wife swore was worthy of her Wisconsin heritage. I also appreciated that well-prepared vegetables were served in addition to perfect protein. My trout rivaled the pork for flavor and perfect temperature of doneness. The bar upstairs was comfy and there was nicely subdued acoustic live music on a Friday evening. We will return, ready for a long meal mostly worth the time invested. Keep it under 90 minutes and get that extra star!

My Friend had recommended this place that had excellent food when I was in town for the weekend. I am glad I went with this recommendation. We went to the Goblin Market on November 15th, 2014 at around 11:30 AM for lunch. The food was outstanding. The quality of each item ordered was so fresh. I started with a bowl of tomato soup, which had fresh Parmesan on it, it was creamy but not too creamy. Truly an amazing dish! Then we had an appetizer to share. It was Tempura Dipped Artichoke Hearts with sweet and hot mustard. Delightful! One of our friends isn't even really a fan of Artichoke hearts but was loving this! My main course was the Irish Cheddar Burger. The meat was very tasty, cooked perfectly to order, along with bacon and fresh cheddar cheese. I am not even really a fan of onions, but the sweet onion jam really added a unique flavor. If you are ever in or near the Mt. Dora area, I implore you to try this place out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

When the two of us walked in, I believe it was the owner seated us and was really very nice. The server was a little quick tempered. Now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and he may have had a bad day or something was on his mind. I came here to visit from California and was surprised at his service at first. As the time went on new became warmer and friendly. Everyone at some point has had a bad day. We had the onion soup which was great! We had cashew crusted chicken and the market Cobb. Both were amazing. I would recommend the goblin market. The atmosphere was very beautiful. It's a must go place

Dropped one hundred bucks on dinner for two, two drinks, and an appetizer, and WORTH EVERY PENNY. Food was amazing, had me OMG'ing after we left. Service was attentive, and we love the setting. Went for first time, for anniversary dinner, loved it.

Okay, I'm not one of those pretentious yelpers that thinks because I write an Anne Rice like novel for a review that I'm either a writer or a food critic, so you'll get none of that "let me describe the tone of the carpet and how it differs per square foot" like Crap. I had the duck with potatoes and veggies, started with the Irish onion soup and had Brian as my bartender. Everything was fantastic. Brian was attentive and engaging and when he got super busy he let us know. Simple, direct and honest. Good food, good beer, this place is honest about what it does. Those thinking that it's pricy, need to take a deep look around.

By far the best place to dine in Mount Dora! The food was amazing. The Chef was accommodating. The service was excellent (kudos to John)! Thanks to Brad (another server here) we met at Maggie's Attic (another gem!!!) for the recommendation. Love the decor!!! Go to the bar on 2nd floor back room. My local Grouper type fish with brown sugar was spectacular!!! My boyfriend's shrimp/scallops risotto was phenomenal, and my son's, Chicken with Brie gourmet dish, was a beauty to behold and fantastic to the taste. Make reservations. Lunch and Dinner were both busy on all floors and outside decks. Oh one more thing the Panko crusted goat cheese medallion with bacon jam that came with the "small plates filet" was to die for...

This is one of the places to visit while in Mt. Dora. It is casual but a bit more formal than the other restaurants in town. The service is very good with knowledgeable servers and staff. It is nicely decorated. We have eaten upstairs twice, never got a chance to sit near the patio. It can get noisy upstairs as we experienced a rude screamer. The food is very good but overpriced. Specials can top out at $45. Most meat and seafood entrees are between $28-36. There are nice touches and nuances with the food and sauces. Someone in the kitchen is adventuresome and talented. A must visit while in Mount Dora.

This place is the best in Mount Dora. The food and atmosphere are amazing. Have tried the: Pork chop, New York strip, Filet, onion soup, crab bisque and soon the salted cashew chicken sandwich. Everything has been top notch.

The atmosphere is perfect! Reservations are recommended since this is a popular place. This time I tried Pumpkin Bourbon salmon. One of my favorite salmon recipes I've tried:). I travel for work, so I've tried a lot.

The Goblin was recommended by a friend. My husband and I were in Mt Dora for the craft fair so decided to check it out. Although it's first come first served, we did not have to wait long for a table. We were seated on the back terrace which is very relaxing with plants and quiet music and nice shade. There was a set menu for the festival but we weren't disappointed. My husband and I shared our orders. The steak & cheese sandwich is probably the best I've ever had and the turkey croissant was also very good. The next time I visit Mt Dora I will make a point of eating here again.

Goblin Market has a really good menu with fresh healthy options and daily specials. Both the soup & salad were beautifully presented and the home-made dressings were delicious. Everything, from the tunnel-like entrance to the back yard patio are secluded, lush and private.

An elegant, well dressed lady of a fine restaurant. Attentive staff and waitress, wonderfully prepared steak and blackened pork tenderloin, with an excellent Malbec to match. Expensive($27-40 entrees) but you're worth it Enjoy!

Lovely cute place. Great service. Food was not up to par. I ordered a special for the day-fish plater as the server highly recommended. It was bad, bad, bad. Maybe it is me but if food fails, I do not care how nice other things work out. I felt bad for my friend who took me there to surprise me.

We have eaten there many before and was very good. This time, the service the worst I have had at any restaurant I have ever been too. The Caesar Salad that I had and my Girl Friend had was wilted. I had the Red Snapper with Mashed Potatoes, the Red Snapper was very black on one side and the Mashed Potatoes were like water. My Girl Friend had the Trout, it was very small, a half of a Trout; about 6 oz's and was over cooked. I will never go back this restaurant again nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone. We called them and spoke with the Assistant Manager the following day. He blow us off and make no offer the make it up or apologize for the bad service and bad food. Very poor customer service and this is why they will go out of business.

Excellent service and ambiance. Filet was over cooked and they were very accommodating. My husband had the escargot appetizer and it was delicious!

I used to be a VIP tour guide for Disney, and I used to join my clients at some of the best restaurants in Florida, but Goblin Market surpasses them all. Such a jewel of a find tucked away in a cobblestoned alleyway of Mount Dora. Food is incredible and atmosphere is enchanting-great place for a romantic evening or to reconnect with visiting family or friends.

Took my friend here for dinner and was blown away. The restaurant is tucked away in an alley in down town. The building has that old southern style feel. The bar upstairs is great and has a fun feel while keeping the intimate theme. The food, top notch. We had fried green tomatoes. Yummy! The elk was to die for and cooked to perfection. The chef came out and greeted us. Our server, Kimberly, was very polite and helpful in recommending her favorite dishes. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone in need of a great meal in an intimate setting. Great date-night restaurant.

Wonderful place. Patrick was a great waiter. Made great suggestions since it was our first visit. Crab cakes out of this world. My wife had cashew chicken sandwich. It was huge. Took home half. Delicious. I Had salmon wrap with home made chips. This place will be a definite return.

My Dad has been taking me to the Goblin Market since I was a little girl...it was finally my turn to take someone! I decided to take my hubby there for this birthday and I'm so glad I did! The ambiance is amazing, the restaurant itself looks like you are walking into a Goblin's house to get into the restaurant (as my husband would call it "creepy") I think it's great! The decor feels like you are sitting inside someplace that would be in the Secret Garden mixed with a gentleman's library. There are book filled walls and I found out from our awesome waiter Michael that you can bring a book and take a book home with you! Now for the food! I ordered the Tempura Dipped Artichoke hearts for our app...they were AMAZING, my hubs and I fought over the last one! For his birthday dinner he ordered the Knockanore NY Strip, he said that it was tender, had a great flavor, and the Lobster Corn Jalapeno bread pudding that came aside to it was out of this world (I snagged it). I ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Saute which came atop angel hair pasta in a lemon based sauce. It was fantastic! My husband said the seafood was a bit overcooked-scallops were a bit chewy, but the last thing I want from a restaurant is undercooked seafood so I didn't even mind. If you're looking for a crafty little place to impress a first date-go here. Mt. Dora is a great little date nigh city! Take a walk around the park, go to Maggie's Attic for after dinner drinks, it will make for a great night! I promise!

Not only was the food amazing, but the ambience, decor, lighting and staff were equally impressive. The bartender Brian (Bryan?) is knowledgeable about the area and great at recommendations. I took his advice and ordered the cashew-encrusted chicken sandwich. I don't even like chicken and it was one of the best meals I've had all year.

My husband and I found this place during his birthday and when I heard the name I thought what but when we arrived at the place it was cute and cozy and the food was AWESOME our server had us wanting to eat everything off the menu just by the way he described the food, since the birthday we have been there 3 times! Its our favorite place a must try the food is prepared fresh daily the sauces and the fish are to die for! You'll enjoy it The key is getting the right server the first time our server was from St Louis I dont remember the name but the 2nd time not as good of experience so we went back & asked for st louis..lol

This was my first visit to Mount Dora, and with a friend in tow, we explored this quaint town. In deciding where to eat dinner, we checked YELP of course, and many of the restaurants had great reviews. The Goblin Market menu caught our eye, so we decided to check it out. Just walking up, you can see this little find was pretty fantastic. The friendly, cute, and quaint ambiance matched the town's. When walking in we were quickly sat and a gentleman explained their menu as well as where they get their food. I was interested to hear that all their food is bought by 12 local vendors and everything is made fresh. My friend and I decided to begin the meal with the crab bisque. The description sounded mouthwatering and the soup did not disappoint. Although it is July in Florida, we both couldn't eat that soup faster and we were wishing for another bowl! My friend ordered the blackened snapper sandwich and I ordered the blacken salmon plate. Both dishes were fantastic and we had not one negative thing to say about our meal. We also ordered martini's which I highly recommend. The Sangria martini, which was quite unusual, was absolutely delicious. We opted to not have dessert, but all the options sounded amazing. I very rarely give a location 5 stars but this place was worth the trip. My next trip to Mount Dora, I will definitely return.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while. It is in such a cool tucked away location in downtown Mount Dora. The restaurant itself is really neat. The outside looks like a cottage out of a fairy tale. The inside looks like the home that "Clue" took place in with books lining the walls and a romantic dim light atmosphere. I ordered the Mediterranean Salmon. It came with a salad and the garden salad was a nice portion with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and mushrooms. The salmon itself was a bit overcooked and dry although spiced nicely. The portion was very large with three nice sized pieces of salmon. My friends had the vegetable of the day which was served lukewarm. I had some of the onion soup and that was very good. We had peanut butter honey cheesecake and bread pudding for dessert, both of which were delicious and large portions. The service was so-so. The waitress spilled a huge puddle of water on my leather purse. Needless to say, I was not pleased. None of my friends seemed entirely impressed with their meals, especially based on the expensive prices we were paying. I would say the value to food quality is off. The entrees are all around $30 at least so, you would expect an extremely high quality and delicious meal. It was a nice place and, I am glad I finally got to visit. I would go back to the area as it was very cute with many shops and restaurants. I would maybe go back to the Goblin Market for lunch, however not for an expensive dinner again.

I would give it 10 POINTS for ambiance! The food is good but not amazing and at the price, it should be spectacular! This visit I had hazelnut encrusted scallops and they were pretty bland; I spent the time imagining how I could have made this better. I then had the steak which again was decent but again, for the price, I would have expected amazing and it just wasn't. We've been here for 3 different anniversary trips and I think this will be our last time..

After deciding the night before to take an impromptu trip to Mt. Dora, we visited the Goblin Market on Father's Day. I did take a moment to review other Yelpers thoughts on the menu before heading out just to get an idea of what to expect. I have only visited Mt. Dora once before and remember it as a charming little town but not so much as offering unique dining experiences. There was much road construction going on and parking was a bit of a nightmare (note: research public parking locations prior to a visit.) We ended up parking much farther away than necessary because we didn't look hard enough for the public parking lot. The Goblin Market is at the end of an alley and, as many have said, would be passed by if you didn't know where to look for it. The building itself is charming; a little dark but still comfortable. Based on other's reviews we ordered the tempura artichoke hearts and crab bisque as appetizers. The artichokes were huge - 3 to a plate and stuffed with a pesto cream cheese. On their own, they were a little bland but along with the provided sweet and hot mustard - delicious. The crab bisque was less crab and more bisque. We tried it first without the addition of the sherry accompaniment and then with. I preferred it without the sherry, however that is merely a preference. For lunch, we had the Braised Kurabuta Pork Belly Sandwich and Mexican Chorizo Quesadilla. The menu is interesting and descriptions ample but we were looking for flavor. The pork belly sandwich was moist but offered a mere teaspoon of the needed citrus aioli. The quesadilla did not offer the kick I know chorizo to be and was not properly drained of any of the excess oil. The best part of the quesadilla was the tomatillo peppadew salsa. It was phenomenal, though only about a tablespoon worth. I wanted to request more but service was trailing off. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and taken to a table. Our server offered drinks a few minutes later. The specials were described in detail and our order was taken swiftly. Appetizers arrived within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, our meal arrived about 5 minutes after that. Our server apologized and blamed the kitchen for working too fast. We had to add the remaining appetizers to our lunch plates to make room. Water and tea was filled regularly until about midway through our meal. That's when the server just stopped serving. He would walk by our table many times assisting other patrons. He would linger at a landing behind us - looking - but not clear plates, fill drinks, etc. Like I said, I would have requested more of the salsa had he bothered to stop by or respond to my attempts to get his attention. It took over 30 minutes from the time we completed our meal to cash out. On the way home we discussed returning to Mt. Dora but I don't think we'll go back to Goblin Market.

Five of us stopped in for lunch without reservations. We were met and seated quickly by friendly staff. The service and food were perfect and well priced for such a nice atmosphere. We loved the bookcases and interesting art pieces - and the lovely outdoor landscaping at the entry. We all would recommend it and probably go back when we plan another Girls' Day Out in Mt Dora. It is worth the search down the alleyway to find it.

In a town as adorable as Mount Dora, it's hard for one place to stand out, but I loved it here, and I'm not retired. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. The patio is a bit small, but it did the job.

Awesome food, superbly presented and served by an extremely knowledgeable, friendly wait staff. Everyone working there is concerned about your enjoyment. Nothing too small for them to take care of. Tho you have one waiter, if another sees you are in need then they fill in. This is the first time here but it has been recommended by many of my friends and they were right. This is for the discriminating diner who enjoys excellent cuisine. We had the 3 starters ... Irish Whiskey Onion Soup, Crab Bisque and Tempura Dipped Artichoke Hearts as we didn't want a large meal. The Onion Soup was the best I've ever had. They are not open holidays. I intent to go back and would highly recommend the experience to everyone.

Lovely in every way. The environment was elegant yet fun and extremely clean. Every thing was seasoned to utter perfection...delightful flavors. Even my husband , who is not a foodie , was impressed...not only with the food itself and the beautiful presentation , but that a " fancy place like this" would offer such good sized portions.

My husband and two friends were so excited to try this restaurant as we had heard such good things about it. We went for lunch and had the crab bisque and artichoke hearts appetizers which were delicious! However, our main courses had a few problems. My husband had the Cowboy Burger and we were warned that it would be spicy (which he enjoys), however It was so spicy it was pretty much inedible. He couldn't finish it. One of our friends had the Portobello Mushroom Wrap. She stated that it was not good. It came cut in two and each side was different. One side had the sauce and veggies in it and the other had the mushrooms and some veggies and no sauce. It just need to be even on both sides otherwise she would have enjoyed it. Another of our friends had the special which was the turkey salad on a croissant and he enjoyed it. I had the roast turkey on a croissant and it was just ok. Pretty dry, nothing special. The environment is beautiful and relaxing and I'll probably give it another go. Hopefully they were just having an "off" day.

I wish I could write a better review of this place. My wife and I have several friends that go to the Goblin Market regularly and rave about it, so we had been eager to try it for a while. When we finally went, we got overpriced mediocrity at its best. In all sincerity, I've had comparable meals at Applebee's. The only differences are that I paid about 20 dollars less for it, it wasn't served on a square plate with a rosemary twig stuck in it, and the portions were probably twice as big. If you go to the Goblin Market, it would appear that all you're paying for is the ambience, which is wonderful. It's a cozy, european-style setting that is tucked away on a back alley in scenic Downtown Mount Dora. It's tastefully decorated to standards you'd expect from a city that is famous for its art festival. Unfortunately, ambience only counts for a small part of the dining experience. It's all about the food, right? And that's where the Goblin Market doesn't deliver. I feel like the hype about this place comes from a lot of people that got suckered into believing that the quality of a meal is determined by its price tag. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean that it's gourmet. I spent $75 and change for a chicken dish, a pork dish, and 3 Blue Moons, and all the Goblin Market left me with was a lesson learned and absolutely no desire to return. If they knocked off $10 off the price of EVERY dish, it might be more reasonable.

You feel like you've traveled to a different place when you walk into the Goblin Market -- like you've walked into a hobbit's home or a dwelling that belongs in a fairy tale. The place also smelled wonderfully of pumpkin spice and was warm and cozy, which was a very welcomed change from the nearly freezing weather we had yesterday! The hostess was very pleasant and led us upstairs to the lounge area to wait while they put tables together for our party of 6. The waiter we had was friendly, though not the most competent in the world. All in all, I have no complaints about the service or ambiance. The food was a different matter. It definitely wasn't terrible by any means, just a little disappointing. We ordered two dishes of the deep fried artichoke appetizer because we were told could not be missed. It consisted of an artichoke that was filled with a mild cheese spread, battered and deep fried and paired with a tangy mustard sauce. It was an interesting combination that was okay but we weren't exactly blown away by it. (I personally don't think it was worth the calories for it and wished I didn't eat the whole thing but I was starving.) My mom and I split the curry chicken salad and blackened salmon. The chicken salad was bland and lacked the curry flavor, but the greens were nice and fresh. On the other hand, the salmon was overly salty, to the point where my mom couldn't eat it and I had to eat bites of fish with salad to temper the salt. (Of course my husband, the salt-ivore, loved the salmon.) Other dishes that were ordered at our table that I did not try where the burger (she said it was good and cooked the way she ordered it), pork tenderloin sandwich (not what he expected and he wouldn't order it again), and the grouper sandwich (it was pretty good). I did try some of their beer battered french fries and really enjoyed that (really, how can anyone mess up anything that's potato, beer battered, and fried?!) I wish I could give this place a higher rating and I wish I could say that I would go back again, but considering how far Mt Dora is from my and how infrequently I visit, I just couldn't do it. I would rather go to the amazing Cuban restaurant next door instead.

Family took us here for lunch last Friday and it was amazing. The four of us had two salads, two soups, one fish dish and one pork dish....wonderful. We shared a dessert and it was great. The ambience was nice; the service was fast and good; the prices were nice for such a place and we'll definitely return. Mount Dora is a wonderful place to visit and shop, and this place adds to the delight of a visit.

This has become a yearly thing for us and another couple, dear friends of ours. We can not go to Mission Inn and not visit The Goblin Market. We were actually counting the days til our evening here arrived. As usual, it was wonderful. We had CLAUDIA as our very nice and gracious server. She was ready for questions and eager to please with all of our requests. The drinks were fabulous and the dinner to die for. They had a vegeteble and sausage "cheesecake" as an appetizer and OMG!!! it was sinful....we couldn't stop eating it. It came served on a wooden board with berries in a balsamic vinegar sauce and also walnuts and different crackers...it was YUMMY!!! I could had had it as my main meal but I went with the filet coins and they were very good too. We were all very pleased with our choices and (again) as usual, it was a wonderful evening out with great friends, good food and excellent service. Looking forward to our next visit.

My parents recently bought a house in Mt. Dora, and this was my husband and my second trip down. This time we decided to explore the historical town of Mt. Dora a bit, and caught wind that The Goblin was a great place to eat...and that it was. We sat outside on a little terrace with only 5 or 6 tables. The ground was a little uneven, so sitting wasn't the most comfortable, but the atmosphere was nice and quite romantic. We had the lobster cake special and their famous artichokes as starters. The lobster cake was DELISH and the artichokes were good too, something different. For dinner hubby had the duck, and he said it wasn't the best, but it was definitely good, and I had the filet napoleon, which was great - a little overcooked (I asked for it medium rare) but it was still at least pink inside so it was OK. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake, which wasn't anything to write home about but it was a good end to the evening. Being from the NY/NJ area we have high standards in food, so my opinion may be a bit more critical than most, but overall I thought this place was great and would definitely go back. One thing I will say is that for the quality of food it seemed to be a little pricey. The service was spot on, and our waiter even gave us some tourism pointers for local places to check out...I think his name was Tony!

So went here for a get together drove 1 hr. Awesome atmosphere I would have to save one of the most unique places I've been. Can't say the same for the food. It's over priced I paid $30 for 3 chucks of pork (seasoned ok) a tiny salad literally a handful of lettuce with 5 pieces of cheese 6 croutons and two slices of red onion. My wife laughed out loud when the server put it down I'm not kidding. Then the entrees came and presentation was pretty poor. Which hey as long as it tastes good who cares really but in this case it was about the same as the presentation, bland. Oh and the potatoes I swear they are instant if they aren't whoever makes them should be fired they were horrible and not creamy, buttery or smooth like they should have been more like firm wet sand. Out of both of our dishes neither had anything good to put here I would save the gas if your thinking of coming from Orlando to eat here. As my wife put it "I feel like we are eating airline food"

I love the name of this place. "What'd you do today?" "Ate lunch at the Goblin Market" How fun is that?? The ambiance is great. Kinda crampy but has a lot of character. I love places like that. I've only eaten here for lunch, and usually just had the hamburgers which were very yummy as far as hamburgers go. Cooked well on a delicious bun...no complaints from me.

Hmmm... Two visits: once for dinner, once for lunch; and both left a lot to be desired. The service is not good. Both visits left us waiting and waiting. For the bill. For refills. For our orders to be taken. For our seats. Our visit for dinner was on a chilly evening and the restaurant was not very busy. We were not greated at the door. When the hostess did arrive to take our information, the phone rang and she chose to answer the phone over acknowledging us (unless you consider putting your index finger in the air as if to say "just a minute" as acknowledgement). That is simply bad customer service. The food is overrated. Salad and soups were tasty. Crab cake appetizer was terrible and flavorless. The food did not look appetizing either. Plating is not pretty here. Lunch was the same. Overrated and overpriced. Dinner for two adults and a child cost $140 (order: soup, salad, NY strip, salmon, crab cake). Lunch for the same party cost $70 (four drinks this time, but come on). If you're looking to spend an arm and maybe even a leg, by all means enjoy. This place is overpriced. You're better off ordering a pizza and buying a nice bottle of wine.

Ok..so I understand what they're trying to do here. This is a very quaint, back alley, european feeling restaurant. The outside seating is beautiful. I think they have half of what they need to make this place great. The wait staff is very friendly. This is deffinately NOT a gourmet place for the gourmet price. The dinner was extremely boring and tasteless. We paid one hundred thirty dollars for dinner and wine by the glass... The lunch was the same. Nothing special going on here. The only good think I've had here is the asian dressing and garden salad. Other than that...we paid over seventy five bucks for LUNCH!!! wha??? (with a couple of beers of course) I would expect something much tastier and more creative for that price ...once again...another tourist trap in Mount Dora...ugh

The new lite bites menu is great! Chris, the bartender makes an incredible Grapefriut martini. Also, the Goblin has started wine dinners that they had The Wine Den host in June, this Spanish dinner was spot on! It is really a quaint, romantic restaurant. A must visit when in Mt Dora.

Lovely place service was nice now the food. Presentation was nice everything was fresh but someone forgot to season the food. Had the scallops appetizer boring. Tasted the cobia and pork tenderloin nicely prepared but very little flavor I like my food highly seasoned and this was just missing. And then the prices too expensive for this quality three stars for the ambiance service and evening. Really only two stars for the food

Went today for my first time with my Mom and Grandpa ( both have been before). They had raved about it and they were right! We showed up about 3 pm and since they close at 330 on Sundays I was a little nervous. We opted to sit inside as it was a little windy and the hostess brought us upstairs. We had our own private room which pleased my Grandfather because it was not noisy. Our server was very helpful in recommending our lunches. Both my Mom and Grandpa had the steak tenderloin salad which both loved and thought everything was so fresh and my Mom loved the almonds and flavor combination. I on the other hand am much more complicated or u should say picky. I being a vegetarian always ask lots of questions and usually end up changing a few things about a dish. Our server Patrick was fabulous and again offered up helpful suggestions which was great! My portabella mushroom wrap was fantastic! Patrick even went so far as to recommend a hair stylist for my mom (she did ask him first... She does that sort of thing). Can't wait to go back for dinner to this charming restaurant and we will be sure to ask for Patrick!

Excellent lunch!! Try any bisque on the menu and can't go wrong. Also try the goblin club, or turkey croissant. Yum!! The wait staff are very laid back. Ask for a meal opinion and you be sure to get it.

I love to eat lunch here-- everyone at my salon orders from here daily. Their service is fast & delicious!! I usually get the Chicken & Avocado Salad. For lunch you are looking about $10-11 per entree. I highly recommended it!

This place reminds me of a quaint bookstore.. that also happens to serve the best food in Mount Dora, hands-down. It can feel a little cramped on crowded nights (usually on the weekends since Mount Dora is a tourist destination for Floridians), but the ambience more than makes up for it. It's a little pricey, but I don't eat here every night either so... whatever.

The entrance to Goblin Market is off an Mt. Dora alley, step into a quint, intimate, low ceiling room, greeted by warm sincere hostess. Dining rooms are decorated with wall paper of books and shelves, dark but serene colors with dim light in every room. the entire house have an English cottage-like atmosphere with two outdoor courtyards for dining alfresco during those beautiful late winter sunny days. Small tables with large umbrella that shades almost everyone including your neighboring tables. my wife and I were there for lunch on one such Sunday. I had the special, pan seared trout over a bed of rice. cubes of mango on top, with sauteed asparagus. she had a warm tenderloin salad cook to perfection. later we shared a wedge of flour-less chocolate cake with raspberry sauce dripped all over the plate in swirl pattern. dense but very moist. my wife is allergic to flour so she have tried many flour-less desert and she said that was the best she ever had. the culinary experience was if we were in some big city, experiencing the creative work by a celebrity chief. yet, we were only twenty minutes from our home. the service was very pleasant. our glasses of ice tea and waters were always full. since we were there for lunch, the price was very reasonable for two. there are sandwiches and hamburger on the menu plus some very good salad as meals. the Goblin Market is our new favorite dining spot.
